BEFORE YOU DROP IN

A few
good questions.

How do I open the Mac testing build?

Open the DMG and drag SamDrop into Applications. Because this preview isn’t notarized, macOS may prevent its first launch. If you trust this download, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and use Open Anyway for SamDrop. Don’t disable your Mac’s security settings.

Do I need an Android phone?

No. Music controls, the file shelf, AirDrop, clipboard history, Calendar, Timer and Notes work on your Mac without a phone. The companion adds local file transfers and phone features.

What happens to my data?

Calls, mirrored notifications and shared clipboard messages use an encrypted connection between your devices. The current file bridge uses unencrypted local HTTP, so use a trusted network. Notification contents stay in memory; clipboard history and notes are saved locally. Clipboard sharing and notification mirroring start off.

Will calls work with every phone?

This preview detects ordinary mobile calls and uses Android’s call controls. Permission, dialer and manufacturer restrictions still apply. Calls through apps such as WhatsApp aren’t supported, and the audio stays on your phone.

Is SamDrop free?

This testing preview is free. Pricing for a future release hasn’t been decided. There’s no payment or subscription in these downloads.

How do I update these builds?

Auto-updates aren’t available yet. Come back here for a newer download and update both apps together. This Mac download currently supports Apple silicon; an Intel build isn’t offered.

SAMDROP TESTING PREVIEW

Your devices.
Your choices.

These details describe the current testing builds, not a future release.

Between your devices

Calls, chosen notifications, battery status and shared text travel over an authenticated, encrypted local Wi-Fi connection. File transfers and file-device registration currently use unencrypted HTTP. Use a trusted network.

On your Mac

Notification and call contents stay in memory and clear on disconnection. Clipboard history records by default and saves text and images locally; you can pause recording or clear history in Settings. Notes, preferences, pairing credentials and file-transfer metadata are also stored locally. Received files remain until you delete them.

You choose what to share

Notification mirroring starts off and requires choosing apps on Android. Mac-to-phone clipboard sharing starts off. Concealed and transient clipboard items are skipped, but unmarked passwords cannot be reliably detected. Phone-to-Mac text can be saved in clipboard history when recording is enabled.

Permissions

Calendar access is requested on the Mac. Camera, Phone and notification access are requested on Android for their respective features. Call audio stays on your phone. You can stop the relay, revoke permissions and forget paired devices.
